Please see the following news release about our new minister, the Reverend Terry Sweetser:
The First Universalist Church of Auburn welcomes Reverend Terry Sweetser as its new minister. Beginning on August 4, Rev. Terry will be preaching for eight consecutive Sundays, giving the congregation and visitors an opportunity to get to know him in the context of church worship life.
“We are fortunate to be able to engage Rev. Terry as our minister,” says David Das, president of the Auburn UU Board of Directors. “His energy and enthusiasm are contagious.” Weekly homilies have indeed been lively, engaging participants listening in person and on Zoom.
“The many positions that he has held within Unitarian Universalism give him a unique perspective on church life,” says Das of Sweetser’s fifty years of service in both parish ministry and supporting the denomination at the national level. To learn more about Rev. Terry, see reverendterry.org/.
Notably, Rev. Terry has specialized in transitional ministry, helping congregations rediscover themselves. He describes this as a time “when a congregation can understand deeply and fully that its dynamism resides not in any one leader. It thrives within itself and in the larger world it serves.”
“A particular focus for Rev. Terry,” Das notes, “will be working with our new Director of Religious Exploration, Samantha McCune, to reimagine our programs for children and youth.” Read more about Auburn UU’s religious “exploration” approach.
